Miriam Mboya
for King County Council District 2
Leadership shaped by lived experience
Why I am Running
Like many of you, I have witnessed the challenges our district continues to face. Chronic homelessness, rising gun violence, ongoing public safety concerns, and the affordability crisis that is affecting hardworking families and small businesses alike. After over a decade living in District 2, and 7 years working for King County, I know where we are falling short, and what we can do to make life better for us all. As your Councilmember, I will work to strengthen relationships between the County and Residents of our District, and serve as a voice for the underrepresented communities.
About Miriam
My name is Miriam Mboya, a daughter of a Union Painter and an Army Veteran. As a proud long-time resident of District 2, I currently serve as a Public Servant with King County Government and have long been a Social Justice activist, passionately advocating for systemic reform in the Child Welfare system at the Federal, state and local levels. My father instilled the value of service to society through his military service. He raised me to see the value of committing one’s life to the betterment of others, and not just self-service. In addition, having the experience of being in a Union household shaped me to believe in worker and individual rights, because there are times those rights will not be given but instead demanded.
